[Coehd] Request for response by Friday--Gathering your input on Downtown, cross-college Research conference on urban issues Feb. 28, 2020

Dear Colleagues, Please take time before Friday to quickly contribute your ideas for what research you have done that has implications for solving urban problems. Several of the Associate Deans for Research in Colleges with a significant presence downtown want to organize a showcase for our research and opportunity to dialogue about create cross-college research collaborations as well as involved stakeholders from community agencies, funders, and leaders. https://utsa.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bKP2GcwiImnk7vD<https://nam... Above is the link to a very short survey soliciting your ideas for how your work could be used to solve or address urban issues, broadly defined. The event will take place at the Downtown Convention Center (Durango Bldg.) with the goal of highlighting faculty and student research activities across a variety of topics. We aim to involve the UTSA community and also the broader San Antonio community to include local residents, businesses, industry, the military community, social service providers, local government, and other relevant stakeholders. We are still working on a title for the event, but we want to showcase the outstanding research activities undertaken by UTSA’s faculty and students and how these efforts are applicable to community problems and challenges. We plan on structuring the event to include a series of themed sessions in which faculty would summarize their research by addressing the following types of questions: · What are the issues or problems that you attempt to address in your research? · What are some specific findings or conclusions that your research has produced to inform and/or offer solutions to this topic? · What are the next steps in this process? What are the remaining questions to be answered? · How does this align with community concerns or challenges? We also plan to secure a plenary speaker during the lunch hour, schedule a student research poster session, and initiate a series of roundtables in the afternoon that engage subject-matter experts to discuss a specific topic/issue. These roundtables would ideally include community engagement and questions to promote a dialogue between UTSA members and the community. We are requesting your assistance in identifying the specific sub-themes around which sessions and roundtables would be built.
