Greetings Colleagues,
I am forwarding the January 2023 Research Development & Grant Writing Newsletter by
Academic Research Funding Strategies, LLC. The newsletter is provided through a
subscription by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Economic Development, and
Knowledge Enterprise (REDKE) solely for the use of the UTSA community. Although you may
share it with your students, please do not post it on a public website or disseminate it
outside the UTSA community.
There are a couple of articles and features in this issue that may be of current
interest:
The article on the NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) program on pp. 14-26 gives a
thorough overview of all the parts that go into applying for that competition and features
advice that may be extrapolated to other NSF applications.
An article on data management and sharing (DMS) sections for proposals may be extended to
different proposals. On pp. 46-47, changes to NIH’s DMS requirements.
On pp. 48-49 are steps for applying to the US Department of Education Institute for
Educational Sciences for an unsolicited grant (i.e., a grant with a research area not in
the current funding slate).
There are also interesting articles on plagiarism, responding to a Broad Agency
Announcement, and moving beyond the "why" of a proposal to the "how"
the proposed grant to meet reviewers’ expectations.
If you would like to discuss any of the information in the newsletter in preparation for a
grant submission, please let me know.
Thank you.
