The College of Education and Human Development welcomed hundreds of new students, part of
the Class of 2020, during the major exploration event on Monday, Aug. 22. The event was
part of UTSA's Roadrunner Days and featured opening remarks from Dean DelliCarpini and

[Josiemendez-negrete]Dr. Josie Méndez-Negrete, professor in the Consortium for Social
Transformation’s Mexican American Studies (MAS) program and the Department of
Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, recently authored a book on her family’s experience with
schizophrenia. The book was published in July of 2015 by the University of New Mexico
Press.

The smallest school district in Bexar County is growing it's student body and its
curriculum, which means more opportunities for Somerset ISD students. Over the last few
years, Somerset ISD has put $500,000 INTO Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
Labs for its students. This year, the district is going to expand it's reading
program. “Somerset ISD has a unique partnership with UTSA that we call the Roadrunner
Reader Program. We're looking forward to implementing it district wide. Last year, we
started it with our primary campuses and this year, we're going to take that
initiative and spread it district wide,” Hinojosa said.
