WINDOWS desktop. UTS will apply these updates on Saturday, January 18, 2020, starting at
1:00 am.
Before you leave today... Save all your work, Log off your computer and Leave your desktop
computer POWERED ON.
First thing Tuesday morning (MLK Holiday on Monday), Restart your computers.
This DOES NOT apply to MAC OS.

Subject: UTS Service Alert - Microsoft Windows Critical Security Patching for UTSA Servers
and Computers
Dear Colleagues,
You may or may not be aware of the recent disclosure by the National Security Agency
concerning the Microsoft CryptoAPI Spoofing Vulnerability affecting Windows server and
computer desktop operating systems. As part of UTS ongoing security endeavors and out of
an abundance of caution, UTS has elected to move our normal patching maintenance of all
UTS managed servers and desktops to this weekend to address this announced vulnerability.
When is this happening?
Beginning this evening, Thursday, January 16, 2020, starting at 6:00 pm, UTS will be
applying critical security patches to all of the Microsoft Windows servers it manages, and
this process will run through Sunday, January 19, 2020, until 12:00 pm. The patching and
restarting of these servers will occur during non-business hours. Additionally, on
Saturday, January 18, 2020, starting at 1:00 am, UTS will also start applying critical
desktop security patches to all UTSA computers.
What steps do you need to take to prepare?
* We advise you to save all your work, log off from your computer, and leave your
UTSA computer in a powered on state as you leave your office on Friday, January 17, 2020.
The security patches deployed to your computer will require a restart of your system.
* We also strongly encourage all Information Technology Associates and System
Administrators who are responsible for patching their own college or department desktops
and servers to apply the recommended security patches as soon as possible to address this
new Windows vulnerability.

and devices are secure, we must regularly update and perform necessary critical
