Dear Colleagues,
As we come to the close of the second week of the semester, I want to check in with you
and thank you for the incredible work that you are doing in this unprecedented time. You
have centered our students in a way that is second to none, and despite these unusual
circumstances, you continue to create an environment of academic excellence.
This has been a very busy time. College leadership is working to respond to the budget
reductions that have resulted in staff reductions, and we continue to plan for the future,
move forward with initiatives, and see a positive and bright path ahead despite the
current challenges we face.
Our staff in all units have been collaborative, creative, and inspiring- we are learning
new ways of doing things and thinking outside the box.
We welcome a cohort of talented new faculty across our departments who truly represent the
future of the college and UTSA:
Dr. Yazan (BBL)
Dr. Tian ( BBL)
Dr. Perry ( REGSS)
Dr. Cruz (REGSS)
Dr. Cuevas ( REGSS)
Dr. Mendoza ( REGSS)
Dr. Lima ( ILT)
Dr. Popielarz ( ILT)
Dr. Emenaha ( ILT)
Dr. Vielma ( ILT, joint appointment with College of Engineering)
Dr. Thacker ( EDP)
Dr. MacNaul ( EDP)
Dr. Devine ( Vising Professor, EDP)
We also welcome three new Department Chairs: Dr. Elenes, who comes to us from ASU,
Department Chair of REGSS, Dr. Nichols, EDP, and Dr. Rodriguez, ELPS.
Finally, we have a number of faculty who have received promotion and tenure this year-
please join me in congratulating those promoted to Associate Professor with tenure:
Dr. Christiansen ( BBL)
Dr. Clark ( COEHD)
Dr. Henderson ( BBL)
Dr. Lloyd-Hazlett ( COU)
Dr. Neely ( EDP)
And congratulations to our newly promoted full Professors:
Dr. De Leon ( ELPS)
Dr. Giles ( ELPS)
Dr. Guerra (EDP)
And congratulations to our emeritus faculty:
Dr. Oliva ( ELPS)
Dr. Barnett ( ELPS)
Dr. Zapata (COU)
We have scheduled the college wide meeting for September 14, and I look forward to seeing
you all there. We have several exciting initiatives that we will begin that will require
ad hoc committees, as well as openings on our standing committees. I hope that you are
all able to find a service opportunity that aligns with your interests- your work in the
college is truly impactful.
I hope that you and your loved ones continue to stay safe, and that you take time for
self-care and create " no screen zones" in your life.
Welcome back!
Warm regards,
Margo
