GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP FOR INNOVATIVE EDUCATION

We are looking for one graduate student for graduate assistantship working on the
development and implementation of innovative learning environments in connection with CAST
Tech High School. Responsibilities of the assistantship include working with the program
coordinator and research faculty assisting in duties as assigned, to include: (a)
organizing meetings and time-tables; (b) helping with program administration tasks; (c)
helping faculty with research and other academic projects associated with materials
development and curriculum design; (d) other responsibilities and duties as assigned. The
graduate assistantship will be for 19 hours per week beginning November 2017. Extension of
the position to spring 2018 and beyond is possible, contingent on funding. Position will
require some travel to CAST Tech as well as work on UTSA’s 1604 and Downtown campuses.
Qualifications
Candidates must be current graduate students in the College of Education and Human
Development. Candidates must maintain enrollment in at least six hours of graduate course
during the full period of the assistantship. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in
graduate work, or if entering the program, a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate
work. Successful experience in working with high school students in a helping relationship
is desirable; experience in use of computers is required. Preference will be given to
students who plan on graduating in Spring 2018 or later.
Salary
Candidates may be paid approximately $12-14 an hour (depending on qualifications).

Description of Job Duties
Work with team of faculty and administrators to explore program and policy options
associated with innovative EC-12 education in Texas. Experience with library searches,
finding and reviewing educational policy documents, and writing briefs is preferred.
Additional preferred qualifications include good interpersonal and organizational skills;
responsible, flexible and able to maintain a professional attitude.
