By Jake New | August 29, 2014
(INSIDE HIGHER ED) -- For more than three decades, the walls of the visitors' locker
room at the University of Iowa's Kinnick Stadium have been pink. When the football
stadium was renovated in 2005, the university took the theme even further, adding new
lockers, showers, and urinals all featuring various shades of the color.

Blaming the

By Michael Stratford | September 03, 2014
(INSIDE HIGHER EDUCATION) -- WASHINGTON -- Since President Obama announced his college
ratings plan more than a year ago, many higher education groups here have mounted the
political equivalent of a full-court press against the proposal: They’ve lobbied the
administration directly, publicly criticized it, and won allies in Congress from both
parties, some of whom are now plotting ways to legislatively block the ratings.

By Karin Eskenazi | September 04, 2014
(EUREKALETT!) -- Like conventional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes (or e-cigarettes) may
function as a "gateway drug"—a drug that lowers the threshold for addiction to
other substances, such as marijuana and cocaine—according to the 120th Shattuck lecture,
presented to the Massachusetts Medical Society by Columbia researchers Denise and Eric
Kandel and published today in the online edition of the New England Journal of Medicine.
