The trans bathroom debates are just the tip of the transphobia that children across the nation have to face in school. The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center is hosting a plática and workshop called “Son Tus Niños Tambien: Trans Kids Back To School” that will facilitate a conversation between teachers, parents and their children on how best to validate/respect/protect trans children in schools. Join us Saturday August 13, 2016 || 6 PM @ Esperanza 922 San Pedro Ave. San Antonio TX. The speakers for the workshop will include school administrators, counselors and legal experts. These speakers will address the legal rights of trans children and their parents, best practices for school teachers/administrators when interacting with trans students in preparation for the 2016-2017 school year. We will also have a parent panel that will discuss their various experiences of navigating the school system while having a transgender child, as well as their concerns and visions for the future. While this event will center around trans children, parents, educators but all allies are welcome. This event is free and open to the public. This event is part of the Esperanza’s Queer Corazones series.
