Dear COEHD Faculty,
I hope you had a great break! I am very excited to be at the DT campus. Below are the
hours I am in the office:
Monday-Friday from 8am - 5pm (I will be here until 5:30pm on the first day of classes,
1/21/20)
A work-study student will be hired to help with office coverage, and the administrative
staff from the main campus will also begin to rotate being at the DT office in the near
future.
Until we have more staff present, there are times when I will need to go to meetings or to
the main campus and the office will be closed. For now, I will try to go to lunch from
12pm - 1pm until we have more coverage.
I hope having the DT office open again will help you better prepare for your classes and
students.
We appreciate your patience as the office becomes fully operational again.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you.

Subject: [Coehd] Happy New Year!
Dear Colleagues,
Happy New Year! I hope that you have had a restful time since the fall 2019 semester ended
and that you were able to get an opportunity for some much needed time to re-charge. I
was fortunate enough to get to spend time in NY with my son, daughter-in law, one of my
daughters, and my 7-month old and 3.5 year old grand babies as well as extended family.
It was delightful to unplug and reconnect with family and see the world through the eyes
of my grand sons.
I have news to share as we enter the Spring 2020 semester.
First, please join me in congratulating Monica Treviño. Monica has accepted a position in
the College of Science and will start there on January 20th. We will miss Monica and the
excellent work that she has done while in COEHD, and I know I speak for all of us when I
wish her all the best in her new position. I will be meeting with the VPREDKE in the next
weeks to discuss how to move forward after Monica's departure.
Second, as a result of Dr. Oliva's departure and the need for a focus on the issues
she was working on, we will be redefining Dr. Liliana Gutierrez' role to that of
staff Assistant Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs. Many of the things that Dr. Oliva
was doing will fall under Liliana's scope, as well as other college level
reports/work. Liliana will be moving to the DCT campus Dean's suite (taking over the
shared office and we will be identifying new space for Raitza) for a beginning of the
Spring semester regular presence. She will reach out to let you all know about
initiatives and office hours at the DTC. Also, please be sure to congratulate her on her
recent graduation from ELPS and her successful completion of her Ph.D. program!
Third, Earlene Gonzalez, the Child Development Center Director, is retiring at the end of
January (congratulations!) . We have posted the CDC director position . If you know anyone
qualified, please reach out to them.

Finally, we are finalizing the BSC tasks now that they have been moving towards full
operations, and will be sending out a summary of tasks, workflow, etc.
Allison Baca, Eddie Alvarez, Nikki McGovern, and Kendall Smith have been doing an
excellent job in taking the concept of the BSC and making it an operational reality. We
still have processes and procedures to establish and situate correctly, but we are off to
a great start.
I wish you all a restful weekend and a very good start to the spring semester!
Warm regards,
Margo
