decided to declare the African American Studies minor during my Junior year at UTSA. My
first courses in the discipline changed my perspective on not only Black history, but on
social issues to this day.

Sensitive Document Shredding — February 13,
2019<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/sensitive_...
As part of RecycleMania, Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management will provide
sensitive document shredding services for the UTSA community on Wednesday February 13,
2019, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Bring your documents to the parking lot between the Student Union (HUC) and Ximenes Avenue

and sealed documents to the Downtown Mail Room earlier in the day, and they will store
them inside their secured fence.
* Employees must comply with UTSA's Record Retention Schedule, so please only bring
documents not covered by this policy.

RecycleMania
2019<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/recycleman...
Recyclemania is a nationwide intercollegiate contest designed to help our universities and
communities become better stewards of the environment. The friendly annual competition
runs for eight weeks, beginning in February. The school that recycles the most material
per capita wins the competition—however, we all win because we achieve a greener
environment.
A successful recycling program requires education, promotion, teamwork, and the
participation of the entire community. The success of our program at UTSA depends on your
cooperation!
Please, before throwing away items, consider those recyclable products that can be
disposed of in the blue recycling containers. These include paper, cardboard, plastics,
and aluminum cans. Items that go into trash bins include items such as food, liquids, used
napkins and facial tissues, coffee grounds, and styrofoam.
Visit our recycling home page for an overview of recycling do’s and don’ts:

Transforming education requires us to rethink how we teach and learn. The ISTE Standards
act as a roadmap for bold, innovative educators and education leaders to re-engineer their
schools and classrooms for digital age learning no matter where they fall on the journey
to meaningful, effective ed tech integration. (

Focus: ISTE Educator Standard 5. Designer
Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and
accommodate learner variability.
For Educators: Designer 5b
Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use

The fastest way to transform presentations into classroom conversations. Imagine if you
could engage every student in your class, every day. What if you could instantly see who’s
confused and who’s ready for more? That’s the power of Pear Deck. And now, with the Pear
Deck for Google Slides Add-on, you can add the magic of formative assessments and
interactive questions to your presentations right from Google Slides.

The 5 Interactive Question Types in Google Slides
There are 5 Interactive Slides or Question types. They allow you to ask every student for
their answers, opinions, ideas and creativity. When you ask students a question through
Pear Deck, every student answers on his or her own screen. You can choose to display
answers anonymously on the projector screen and you can see each individual answer on your
Teacher Dashboard. With every question type you can put content on the main slide (which
will show on the projector screen) and then configure the way students will respond.
Content you can put on the main slide area:
• Text
• List
• Image
• YouTube
