Dear COEHD Faculty and Staff,
Our university community is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a service member at the
Alamodome before Saturday’s football game against the U.S. Naval Academy. I know many of
you are still processing the grief and shock of this event.
Alongside President Eighmy, I want to extend my deepest condolences to the airman’s
family, his colleagues and squadron, and all who have been affected by this heartbreaking
incident.
Moments like this remind us how much we rely on one another. COEHD is built on care and
respect, and those values matter most when someone among us is hurting. Many of you
witnessed the incident firsthand or supported others in the aftermath, and each person’s
experience is valid. There is no single way to navigate something so difficult.
Support resources are available for anyone who needs them, whether you were directly
present or are simply feeling the weight of this loss. Counseling services for students
and employees, wellness support, and academic guidance will be accessible. Listed below is
additional information to help our community connect with the right services.
Experiences like this can surface emotions over time, not always right away. As we move
forward together, I encourage you to take time to check in on one another. If you find
yourself struggling, I encourage you to reach out; no concern is too small.
We will continue to support each other with compassion and care.
With continued support,
Mario Torres, PhD
Dean, College of Education and Human Development
The University of Texas at San Antonio
