Food insecurity covers a wide spectrum of students and includes 25 percent of community college students and 20 percent of those in four-year universities. Many of them are not what we would consider traditional college students, those who enroll right out of high school and are supported by Mom and Dad. Hunger was found to be more prevalent among students of color and first-generation college students, according to “Hunger on Campus,” a recently released study conducted by the National Student Campaign. But the ceremony he administered late Friday afternoon in a gazebo at Old Town in Albuquerque might have his most memorable one yet.
