Good Afternoon COEHD Faculty and Staff,
UTSA has partnered with San Antonio ISD to establish Dual Language Community Lab Schools
under a Senate Bill 1882 Partnership agreement. I was recently named the new executive
director overseeing this exciting endeavor! As you can imagine, the first months of
establishing this new Partnership has been wonderfully intense as we have been involved in
designing innovative systems and processes while testing them in real time. The three
participating SAISD campuses include: Bonham Academy, Washington Irving Dual Language
Academy, and Mark Twain Dual Language Academy. I would like to provide you with some 1882
Partnership updates.
Dual Language Community Lab School Research: Faculty members interested in conducting
research at the lab schools can submit their proposal by completing the Google Form found
at
https://forms.office.com/r/i994939Jrk<https://nam11.safelinks.protecti...
A summary of the campus pillars, needs, and dual language areas of focus are attached. If
you have submitted your research information prior to my hire. I will review that
information and contact you directly.

PILLARS OF THE CAMPUS AND DEMONSTRATE HOW THE STUDY WILL MEET THE NEEDS OF THE CAMPUS. ALL
FALL RESEARCH PROPOSAL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE OCTOBER 15, 2021 DEADLINE. A
DEADLINE WILL ENSURE THAT THE COMMITTEE RECEIVES ALL RESEARCH TOPICS TO BETTER DETERMINE
WHETHER STUDIES OVERLAP, ARE REPLICATED, OR NEED TO REFINE THE FOCUS TO BETTER ALIGN TO
THE PILLARS OF THE CAMPUS AND MEET THE NEEDS OF THE CAMPUS. THE PRIMARY INVESTIGATOR WILL
RECEIVE A FORMAL LETTER OF NOTIFICATION BY NOVEMBER 1, 2021. ALL FACULTY MUST COMPLETE THE
SAISD PROCESS FOR SUBMITTING RESEARCH PROPOSALS AND WILL NEED THEIR APPROVAL. A MEETING
WITH THE CAMPUS PRINCIPAL WILL BE SCHEDULED AFTER SAISD APPROVAL TO SHARE YOUR RESEARCH
AND GAIN THEIR INTEREST.

Research Matrix: To support the needs of the campuses, avoid overlapping of research, and
prevent participant fatigue, the UTSA Dual Language Research Committee will develop a
matrix of research to maintain a current list of research topics and what site is
currently occupied. I will notify you when this matrix is complete.

information regarding the community lab schools. A town hall that outlines the progress of
the Partnership has not been scheduled yet as we are still in the preliminary stages of
the Partnership. Please see the 1882 Dual Language Community Lab Schools website being
