The first phase of the desktop systems encryption requirement is beginning, this includes your open areas and some faculty offices. This stage of encryption is only addressing the "High Risk" machines or systems more likely to contain student and university sensitive data which are located in the higher traffic and open office areas. All newly purchased systems, desktops and laptops, do now require encryption. OIT has made the recommendation that for any faculty or staff who prefer to run Windows OS not to purchase Macintosh(Apple) hardware and that the pc purchases meet the requirements for the encryption software. Please vet your hardware purchases through myself or Will to insure there will be no unforeseen issues. This includes the newer Apple laptops as well. If purchases are made without being vetted we can not guarantee full functionality with the UTSA network/domain. This can result in new machines not performing to expectations.
