her poem "This River Here" during the San Antonio Founder's Day Gala on
Thursday, May 3. She was joined during her performance by the San Antonio Dance Umbrella.
The Founder's Day Gala, which was part of the city's tricentennial celebration,

ELPS Department and District Partners Secure TEA
Grants<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/elps_dep...
The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) in partnership with two
local school districts, Northside ISD and North East ISD, secured the 2018/19 Texas
Education Agency (TEA) Principal Preparation grant. Each of the two districts was awarded
more than $100,000. The competitive grant, which was open to all the districts in the
state, will provide participants with substantial funding (tuition/fees and textbook
expenses) and will also pay for other general program operating costs. A select cadre of
highly qualified and talented educators will participate in a one-year principal residency
certification program offered in collaboration between the ELPS department and the two
districts. The ELPS professors leading the partnership efforts are:
1) Dr. Bruce Barnett and Dr. Nathern Okilwa for Northside ISD
2) Dr. David Thompson and Dr. Curtis Brewer for North East ISD

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP for Upward Bound

We are looking for two graduate students for graduate assistantships working with the TRIO
Upward Bound Program. The graduate assistantship will be for 19 hours per week beginning
June 1, 2018. Program Dates are June 11 - July 20.
Description of Job Duties
1. Deliver quality academic assistance to high school students during Summer Academic
Program June 11-July 20
2. Accompany students on bus rides to and from high school campus to UTSA Main Campus
3. Assist Retention Specialists’ track students’ academic progress
4. Attend all staff meetings and training sessions to discuss student progress and
tutoring needs
5. Perform other duties as assigned
Other Skills Preferred:
1. Good interpersonal and organizational skills
2. Must be responsible, flexible and maintain a professional attitude
Qualifications
Applicants must be current graduate students in the College of Education and Human
Development. Candidates must maintain enrollment in at least three hours of graduate
course credit during summer 2018. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in graduate
work, or if entering the program, a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.
Successful experience in working with students in a helping relationship is desirable;
experience in use of computers is required.
Salary
Candidates may be paid $11.99/ hour.

Mexican American Studies (MAS) program at UTSA invites your schools to participate in our
2018 MAS Social Studies and Literature Teachers’ Academy June 25-29, 2018.
The Academy engages secondary teachers in intellectually oriented readings, workshops, and
discussions to increase content knowledge and pedagogical skills to integrate the Mexican
American experience for Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills in social studies as well as
meet the specific content area for Mexican American Studies as a special topics course.
In addition, the Academy will be held at UTSA’s Institute of Texan Cultures offering
teachers a special tour to explore classroom resources inspired by ITC’s newest exhibit
Los Tejanos. The MAS Social Studies Teachers’ Academy provides professional development
hours/credit.
UTSA is a campus on the rise! We believe in students learning their past in order to excel

Tri-Campus Natural Gas Testing Begins May
14<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/tri_campus_n...
Natural gas to Tri-Campus buildings will be shut down in small segments for testing, as
mandated by the State Fire Marshal, between May 14, 2018 and July 31, 2018. The shutdowns
will affect comfort heating, domestic hot water, autoclaves, kitchen equipment using
natural gas and emergency generators. The exact date and time of each shut down, including
a twelve-hour shut down of natural gas service to West Campus buildings on June 30, 2018,
will be coordinated with building occupants prior to shut downs and testing. Only natural
gas will be impacted by this testing, all other utilities including compressed gas will
remain operational and available for use. For additional information reference the list
below or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.
