[Lorena] Dr. Lorena Claeys, executive director of the college's Academy for Teacher Excellence (ATE), was chosen to receive the 2016 Higher Education Honoree award from the Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE). The award was established to honor outstanding individuals that have earned the recognition, respect, and admiration of bilingual educators and their community. Center for Civic Engagement and the City of San Antonio Challenge Grant Center for Civic Engagement Through the generosity of Councilman Ron Nirenberg and the city’s discretionary funds, the Center for Civic Engagement launched the COSA Challenge Grant last month. This grant funds service-learning projects for students, groups, classes and RSO’s. The challenge is to do a creative community project that benefits a nonprofit agency and/or the population they serve in our local San Antonio community. Grant awards are up to $500 per individual and a $1000 for a group project. Students, groups and organizations must have a faculty advisor and a nonprofit agency already selected for the project.
