ELPS doctoral students receive TACHE

Vincent Carales and Eyra Perez, doctoral students in the Department of Educational
Leadership and Policy Studies, were recently awarded the 2017 Texas Association of
Chicana/os in Higher Education (TACHE) Graduate Fellowship Award. Their TACHE Graduate
Fellowship Award will be presented at the 42nd Annual TACHE Conference, February 26-March
1, 2017 to be held at Wyndham Garden Hotel in Austin, Texas. (Photos courtesy of ELPS)

Academy for Teacher Excellence NCLR Líderes Avanzando
The Academy for Teacher Excellence (ATE) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA)
is partnering with the National Council of La Raza to offer the Líderes Avanzando program
to UTSA and Alamo College students. Thirty college students will participate in
bi-monthly, interactive workshops during the spring 2017 semester to help participants be
successful in college. Topics will include building relationships, studying and time
management, self-care, and financial aid. The program is targeted to Latina/o and first
generation college students, though non-Latina/o and non-first generation college students
are welcome to participate. Participants who complete all requirements will receive a $400
stipend.

Ramiro Nava 2017 Johnny L. Veselka Scholarship Texas Association of School
Administrators
Ramiro Nava, doctoral student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy
Studies, is one of four people to receive the Texas Association of School
Administrators' 2017 Johnny L. Veselka Scholarship. He, along with the other three
recipients, will be honored at the TASA midwinter conference at the end of the month.
