The 10 students selected as SAC members will have the unique opportunity to advise a national women's organization on the needs of college students, to hone and grow their leadership skills, to network with amazing student leaders and distinguished women nationwide, and to attend two leadership events in the Washington, D.C., area.
Applicant Qualifications
* Student Advisory Council members must meet the following qualifications:
* Attend a two- or four-year accredited institution
* Possess a minimum GPA of 3.0
* Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, planning, and writing skills
* Have student leadership experience
* Understand and be genuinely interested in women's equality issues
* Be eager to network and exchange ideas on the monthly conference calls, via e-mail and Facebook, in person at the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL)<http://www.nccwsl.org/>

IES and the National Science Foundation Release Common Guidelines for Education Research and Development
A new report from the Department of Education and the National Science Foundation explains how the two agencies hope to realize the full potential of their education research and development investments-including obtaining meaningful findings and actionable results-through a more systematic development of knowledge.
The report describes six types of research studies that can generate evidence about how to increase student learning. Research types include those that generate the most fundamental understandings related to education and learning; examinations of associations between variables; iterative design and testing of strategies or interventions; and assessments of the impact of a fully-developed intervention on an education outcome.
For each research type, the report describes the purpose and the expected empirical and/or theoretical justifications, types of project outcomes, and quality of evidence.

The RFA for the 2014-2015 Teacher Quality Grants Program (TQGP) is available at http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/OS/TQ/. The website also provides application and webinar information.
The TQGP for higher education is a federally funded effort providing grants to higher education faculty to promote improved instruction in writing, mathematics and science for Texas school children by providing professional development for their teachers and for principals who are responsible for instructional leadership.
Texas education, mathematics, science and English faculty at four-year and two-year colleges are eligible to apply - the RFA includes specifics about eligibility.
A webinar to provide RFA information and answer questions will be held at 1 p.m. Central Time on Monday, September 20, 2013. A link will be available at the website listed above. Before the webinar, please review the RFA carefully to ensure you are aware of current program requirements. Some aspects of the program have changed such as the number of awards that will be funded and the topic areas allowable.
The deadline to submit a Notice of Intent to apply for a TQGP grant is September 25, 2013 at 4 p.m. Central Time. The deadline to submit an application for a 2014-2015 Teacher Quality Grant is October 23, 2013 at 4 p.m. Central Time.
