Ginnifer Cie Gee, doctoral student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, received a Presidential Dissertation Fellowship from the UTSA Graduate School. She was one of six recipients from across the university to receive the fellowship, which will assist them with the completion of their dissertation research.

The Office of Teacher Education Services and the College of Education and Human Development inducted nearly 200 students teachers into the profession of teaching during a special ceremony on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 on the UTSA Main Campus. The event, which was sponsored by Firstmark Credit Union, featured remarks from COEHD Dean Dr. Betty Merchant and Kelley Farewell from Firstmark Credit Union.

With only a year to go until graduating with her degree in education at the University of North Texas, Sidah Garner’s life revolved around studying, classes and campus life. Like any college student, her thoughts were focused on graduation and the future. While driving, just 30 minutes from campus, the clash of metal on metal would usher in a tragic change to her education, her life, and her future.

Be Counted Campaign

Hi Everyone,
As much as I prefer collaboration over competition, I have to admit that my competitive edge is now fully engaged! We've had a respectable response to the Be Counted Campaign (currently 89%), but our participation percentage is considerably lower than that of several other colleges. This morning, we hosted a table outside of the Teacher Induction Ceremony for families to contribute toward the college campaign, and that helped boost our numbers somewhat.
All the competitive talk aside, whatever contributions are made will go directly to our college for the benefit of our students, in the form of scholarships and assistantships, as indicated in the announcement.
With only two days left, I'm urging your participation-although we will not be able to surpass the COE and COS, both of which now have participation rates well over 100%, we can certainly make our best effort in behalf of our students.
Please note that it isn't the dollar amount that really matters (even $1 will count), but rather the level of participation (like the SEC Campaign), I urge you to log onto the website below and contribute whatever you can, either in person, in the Development Office, or on-line.
(Previous and current students can contribute as well, as can family members and friends).

Dear UTSA Provost, Vice Provosts, Deans, Department Chairs, Institutes and Centers:
In an effort to enhance understanding of Mexico and Latin America, the Carlos and Malú Alvarez International Study Fund, offers scholarships and enrichment funds to defray the cost to students participating in UTSA Study Abroad programs. Programs must involve travel to one the following areas: unrestricted regions of Mexico, Central or South America.
The International Study Fund is directly supported by distributions from the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Endowment for Student Success. The endowment goal is to directly benefit the student recipients and encourage participation in study abroad activities, thus the funds cannot be used for program related expenses, such as faculty stipends, travel, and educational materials.
Please note the Alvarez International Study Fund gives direct consideration to department and/or college sponsored international initiatives and programs. Proposals that recommend and/or nominate a single international scholarship award for an individual UTSA student (based on his or her merits) will not be considered.

Note about disbursement:
The UTSA Endowment Compliance officer indicates that the total annual (August 2016) projected award funding amount for the 2016-17 academic year will not sustain any early (pre-September 2016) withdrawals from the International Study Fund account this FY.
