According to Dr. Perry Francis, a counselor trainer at Eastern Michigan University and member of the American Counseling Association, leaving the “protective bubble” of college education can lead to changes in almost every aspect of a young person’s life. These changes can cause stress and anxiety to rise, making mental health issues harder to deal with.

AERA DEADLINE--MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
by Rosalind Horowitz
25 May 2016
Dear Faculty, Doctoral Students, and COEHD Communities of Teachers and Learners,
Last Friday, many of us in the College met with AERA leadership to discuss the forthcoming AERA Conference
to be held in San Antonio, Thursday, April 27- Monday, May 1st 2017.
This is the first AERA Conference ever in San Antonio and marks the first meeting in AERA's 2nd century of service in
Educational research. All of this is monumental!
This is a reminder that the deadline for proposals for this meeting is July 22nd 2016.
The meeting theme is: Knowledge to Action: Achieving the Promise of Equal Educational Opportunity.
Please check the AERA Website for guidelines for the various Divisions and SIG's.
Do share this information with colleagues, including in other units at UTSA, with students, and teachers
who may be interested in presenting or attending the meeting.
We hope to see great participation of our UTSA Community and visibility of our contributions to
Education locally and globally. We have much to be proud of. We might also use this opportunity to recruit
for our masters and doctoral programs.
I stand ready to help in any way that I can to see our presence felt and contributions made throughout the meeting.
Respectfully yours,
Rosalind

Treasurer-Secretary, SIG on Research in Reading and Literacy
