I wanted to share information about an upcoming National Science Foundation event happening next week online May 17-23. The NSF Video Showcase "STEM for All" is an interactive event where cutting-edge STEM research is shared with the public through short videos. I'll be co-facilitating discussions of these three-minute video presentations from more than 150 projects and 403 presenters aimed at improving access to STEM education. Everyone is invited to view the videos, join the discussion online with presenters, and vote for the most effective presentations through social media. This an open and free event. To join, the NSF Video Showcase "STEM for All", go to link http://stemforall2016.videohall.com<file://localhost/javascript/void(0)>.

FW: REMINDER: Alvarez International Study Fund 2016-2017- Request for Proposals due May 31
by Karen Hoskins
From: Cynthia Arreola

To: Cynthia Arreola <cynthia.arreola(a)utsa.edu>
Subject: REMINDER: Alvarez International Study Fund 2016-2017- Request for Proposals due May 31
The following is sent on behalf of Rene Zenteno. Please share this call for proposals with faculty in your department and others in your area:
Dear UTSA Provost, Vice Provosts, Deans, Department Chairs, Institutes and Centers:
In an effort to enhance understanding of Mexico and Latin America, the Carlos and Malú Alvarez International Study Fund, offers scholarships and enrichment funds to defray the cost to students participating in UTSA Study Abroad programs. Programs must involve travel to one the following areas: unrestricted regions of Mexico, Central or South America.
The International Study Fund is directly supported by distributions from the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Endowment for Student Success. The endowment goal is to directly benefit the student recipients and encourage participation in study abroad activities, thus the funds cannot be used for program related expenses, such as faculty stipends, travel, and educational materials.
Please note the Alvarez International Study Fund gives direct consideration to department and/or college sponsored international initiatives and programs. Proposals that recommend and/or nominate a single international scholarship award for an individual UTSA student (based on his or her merits) will not be considered.
How to apply: Fill out attached form and submit proposal(s) via email to cynthia.arreola(a)utsa.edu<mailto:cynthia.arreola@utsa.edu>
Deadline: Tuesday, May 31, 2016
Eligible semesters: Fall 2016, Spring 2017, Summer 2017
Selection process: All proposals will be reviewed and selected by the Alvarez International Study Fund Program Committee. Successful applicants will be notified via email by late June 2016.
Note about disbursement:
The UTSA Endowment Compliance officer indicates that the total annual (August 2016) projected award funding amount for the 2016-17 academic year will not sustain any early (pre-September 2016) withdrawals from the International Study Fund account this FY.
The UTSA Alvarez International Study Fund Program Committee members:
Vice Provost and Senior International Officer - Rene Zenteno (Chairperson)
Dean, College of Liberal and Fine Arts - Dan Gelo
Associate Vice President, Institute for Economic Development - Robert McKinley
Dean, College of Architecture- John Murphy
Director, Office of International Business Programs, College of Business- Dennis Lopez
Director, CAPRI/Mexico Center - Harriett Romo
Executive Director, Office of International Programs - Lisa Marie Gomez
Committee members are selected based on their ongoing involvement in globalization initiatives across the UTSA campuses.
The Carlos and Malú Alvarez International Study Fund account is projected to reach an estimated distribution amount of approximately $33,000 by the end of August, 2016.
The committee looks forward to receiving great proposals this year. If you have any questions or need more information about the proposals, please contact, Cynthia Arreola at cynthia.arreola(a)utsa.edu<mailto:lisamarie.gomez@utsa.edu> . Once you submit your proposal, you should receive an email confirmation. If you do not get a confirmation please call Cynthia Arreola at 210.458.7211.
Thank you for your efforts in internationalizing UTSA.
