Dear Colleagues,
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Pamela Ray, our new Child Development Center Director. After an extensive search with a highly qualified candidate pool, the committee unanimously recommended Dr. Ray for the position. Dr. Ray comes to us with vast experience in early childhood education, having held positions of Department Chairperson of Early Childhood and Family Studies and Director of the Early Childhood and Family Studies Program at St. Phillips College. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education, with a concentration in Higher Education . Her research focuses on the following areas:
Early Care/Education and Family Support, Adult Education, Higher Education, Gender Studies and Ethnic Diversity on College Campuses.
In her work at St. Phillips, Dr. Ray managed a nationally accredited Child Development Center for seventy-five students ensuring licensing standards and all other contract requirements were met, managed and scheduled staff, and maintained reporting standards. and coordinated course offering contracts and agreements for high school students, dual-credit, and Tech-Prep Programs. She has experience in educator preparation, curriculum development, early childhood education and family studies, and program accreditation.
In addition, she has served on a number of San Antonio area and regional boards and committees, including the City of San Antonio PreK 4 SA Governing Board, District 2 Appointee , the Core Team for Financial Resources – College Reaffirmation (SACSCOC) Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, the Family Service Association – Head Start/Early Head Start Policy Council, Community Representative , and Commissioner, National Association for the Education of Young Children, Early Childhood Commission on Associate Degrees.
Dr. Ray's combination of early childhood education and expertise, program management and leadership ,the preparation of early childhood educators, and accreditation and program development makes her an excellent leader for the UTSA CDC as we build on its strong foundation to transform the center into a progressive, innovative place of discovery and learning for the children of our students, faculty , and staff, and a demonstration site for excellence in educator and other professional preparation.
I look forward to working with Dr. Ray and I know she will be a wonderful member of the COEHD team!
