Credit/no credit (CR/NC) grading option

Dear All,
I am writing you in regard to the pass/fail process. If you are teaching in Spring 2020, please inform your students this week whether your course has been designated as eligible for the credit/no credit (CR/NC) grading option (“pass/fail”).
Beginning April 20, students will see the course(s) with CR/NC option in ASAP and will need to make their choice to opt in by 5 p.m. CDT on May 8, the last day of classes; otherwise, they will receive the traditional letter grade for the eligible course.

If you have any questions, please contact the lead faculty of the course(s) you are teaching (if applicable) or the Faculty Champion in your department.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Pamela Ray, our new Child Development Center Director. After an extensive search with a highly qualified candidate pool, the committee unanimously recommended Dr. Ray for the position. Dr. Ray comes to us with vast experience in early childhood education, having held positions of Department Chairperson of Early Childhood and Family Studies and Director of the Early Childhood and Family Studies Program at St. Phillips College. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education, with a concentration in Higher Education . Her research focuses on the following areas:
Early Care/Education and Family Support, Adult Education, Higher Education, Gender Studies and Ethnic Diversity on College Campuses.
In her work at St. Phillips, Dr. Ray managed a nationally accredited Child Development Center for seventy-five students ensuring licensing standards and all other contract requirements were met, managed and scheduled staff, and maintained reporting standards. and coordinated course offering contracts and agreements for high school students, dual-credit, and Tech-Prep Programs. She has experience in educator preparation, curriculum development, early childhood education and family studies, and program accreditation.
In addition, she has served on a number of San Antonio area and regional boards and committees, including the City of San Antonio PreK 4 SA Governing Board, District 2 Appointee , the Core Team for Financial Resources – College Reaffirmation (SACSCOC) Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, the Family Service Association – Head Start/Early Head Start Policy Council, Community Representative , and Commissioner, National Association for the Education of Young Children, Early Childhood Commission on Associate Degrees.
Dr. Ray's combination of early childhood education and expertise, program management and leadership ,the preparation of early childhood educators, and accreditation and program development makes her an excellent leader for the UTSA CDC as we build on its strong foundation to transform the center into a progressive, innovative place of discovery and learning for the children of our students, faculty , and staff, and a demonstration site for excellence in educator and other professional preparation.

Proposal development support options AND a time-sensitive request for info on possible connections between COVID-19 related issues and your research area

I’m writing with a request for information and also to share with you help that is available for research proposal development:
Request: Please reply to me (today if you can, Monday if you must) with any ideas for how you might be able to apply your research focus on COVID-19 related issues? Jaclyn Shaw has asked for a list of possible applications. With that we will try to help you find related research funding for you given the growing number of local philanthropic and federal funding options available for work in this area relevant to your interests.

Think broadly or creatively and you may see connections, considering the disruptions to schooling and employment, policy changes related to immigration, and experiences of increasing isolation as well as family connection time, increased use of technology by families, schools and businesses, all from the COVID-19 response.
Support for Proposal Development: The VPR’s REDKE Office would like to provide proposal development assistance to faculty. Currently we do not have a Grants Development Coordinator, but the VPR’s REDKE Office, specifically Jaclyn Shaw and Liana Ryan in Research Support, want to provide faculty with grant proposal writing and proposal support as needed, whether for COVID-19 related or regular research proposals that you have identified a funder for. You can contact either of them (info below) or the RSC Director you work with (for most of you that is Jennifer Silver, but those submitting grants through in Downtown Campus Centers may use the DT RSC, and should contact Theresa Bailey) once you have a funding opportunity in mind and are ready for assistance.

Specifically, given that all research conducted remotely can continue, but any face-to-face research with human subjects must be temporarily suspended. Where possible, you may want to transition in-person interactions for your studies to remote interactions (e.g., phone, video) to limit potential exposure. All other studies must cease.
