UTSA IES Pathways Program still seeking applicants for AY 2022-2023

Greetings COEHD Faculty, Staff and Friends!
Happy Friday!
The deadline to apply to the UTSA IES Pathways Program<https://pathways.utsa.edu/> has been extended to September 19, 2022. Please encourage your junior and senior undergraduate students to apply (must graduate after Spring 2023). A program flyer has been attached. This program welcomes undergraduate juniors from all areas, especially for students who are interested in engaging in educational research from an interdisciplinary perspective.
The UTSA IES Pathways Program is a Research Training Program in Education Sciences funded by the U.S. Department of Education and housed in the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching.
After a successful first 5-year cycle, Pathways has started a second cycle, and currently seeking applicants for the academic year 2022-23.
The program offers a $6,000 stipend, participation in the UTSA-ETS Young Scientist Institute, UTSA-Stanford Graduate School of Education Summer Institute at Stanford University, Summer Internships with collaborations at Georgia State University and University of Wisconsin-Madison, and additional travel to conferences, all funded by IES Pathways.

IES - UTSA P20 Pathways to Education Research Training Program Accepting Applications for 2022 - 2023 Cohort
The UTSA Educational Research Training Program is designed to mentor undergraduate juniors beginning in their junior year to conduct collaborative Educational Science research that prepares them for graduate study. The training program is primarily housed within the UTSA Department of Interdisciplinary Teaching and includes faculty and students from across disciplines who are conducting Educational Science research.
The founded training program aims to:
1. Provide undergraduate juniors with experiences in conducting Educational Science research with a focus on P-20 Pipeline Issues while preparing participants for doctoral study, and
2. Help increase diversity in the educational science fields.
Since 2016, the IES Educational Research Training Program: UTSA P20 Pathways to Education Research (IES UTSA Pathways) has been developing a pipeline of young and talented interdisciplinary researchers who bring fresh ideas, approaches, and perspectives to addressing the issues and challenges of inequalities that exist in educational experiences, transitions, and outcomes from PK through graduate school.
UTSA Pathways supports undergraduate students for doctoral studies in education research across disciplines through its education research training program. The training program provides fellows with: (1) the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of P-20 pipeline issues; (2) an introduction to education research and scientific methods; (3) meaningful opportunities to participate in education research studies; and (4) professional development and mentoring leading to doctoral studies.
The program is currently recruiting undergraduate juniors to be part of our new 2022-23 UTSA Education Pathways Fellows Cohort. Applications are currently being accepted through September 19, 2022.

edTPA Survey due September 22

During the 2021-22 school year you may have had the opportunity to interact with or support students doing edTPA. TEA sent this survey soliciting your input. Here is the text from TEA.
This year we had the opportunity to work together to align and integrate the edTPA into our program, supporting candidates in their completion of the edTPA as a component of their teacher certification. We want to thank you for your hard work, thoughtful feedback, and intentional support of our teacher candidates throughout this process.
As educators, we seek to consistently reflect on our practice in pursuit of continuous improvement. With this in mind, the Texas Education Agency is seeking feedback on your experience supporting candidates in the completion of edTPA. As an instructor who supported candidates as they worked towards completion of edTPA during the first-year pilot in Texas, your perspective, reflections, and insight are incredibly important and will be used to inform potential edTPA implementation going forward.
With this in mind, the TEA is requesting that you complete a short edTPA survey in order to gather your feedback on the edTPA process. The survey is anonymous and optional and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. The link to the survey can be found below.

There is a GMAIL account named Dept.Chair341 that was created by Hackers for a phishing attack - to gain information.
It is being sent to all faculty to get your cellphone number. DO NOT RESPOND. The message looks similar to:

There are several phishing emails circulating from Dr. Mario Torres this weekend.

We are reminding everyone to ensure data is protected from phishing attacks. Increase your cyber security awareness to keep you safe from phishing attacks that may arrive in your inbox.
Phishing is a cyber-attack used to lure people to provide their confidential information usually by sending them to a website that they may normally use. Attackers send email messages that look like they are from a legitimate company - such as UTSA. When you click on a link in a phishing message, it may download a virus/malware or take you to a mock-up of the legitimate company's or university's website.
A virus/malware will steal your credentials and confidential information when directing you to a website that will prompt you for your information. If you submit information to these websites, attackers can re-sell the information or use it to commit fraud or other illegal acts. The UTSA Office of Information Security has some easy tips to protect you, your data, and our university.

Lisa has been an integral member of the college since 2003, serving as a work study, Administrative Associate, Fiscal Specialist with the ELPS Department, and eventually as COEHD BSC Manager. Throughout her time in COEHD, Lisa dedicated herself both to mastering processes and procedures and finding creative solutions to complex problems. Her energy and devotion to quality and excellence will be missed.

RE: Whole Child Whole Community Conference- Call for Presenters
As we begin a new school year, educators and youth service providers are searching for tools to support the whole child and their mental health needs. School and community leaders are seeking to expand their knowledge to better advocate and address systemic barriers with hopes to build a more equitable future. Focusing on the whole child requires the whole community to come together. Communities In Schools of San Antonio is excited to share that registration is now open for the 2022 Whole Child Whole Community Conference<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure....>- a day dedicated to connecting, healing, and belonging. In partnership with The University of Texas at San Antonio, we hope you will join us for this cross-sector collaborative effort to build an equitable path for future generations. This year’s theme is Community: A Place to Connect, Heal, and Belong. Our goal is to build the capacity of those who serve youth to improve youth mental, emotional, and behavioral health. We invite you to submit a proposal for breakout sessions around one of the following themes:
* Building Relationships to Unlock Student Potential
* Promoting Healing and Mindfulness
* Shifting Systems to Promote Equity
* Caring for the Caregiver
