Urban Education Institute Research Seed Funds 2019 Research Grants Call for
Proposals<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/urban...
The Urban Education Institute (UEI) is soliciting proposals for applied research projects
aimed at improving the share of San Antonio students pursuing and completing a
postsecondary education.
Our goal is to increase the number of transdisciplinary research teams focused on
addressing education issues relevant to San Antonio’s community of education stakeholders
including educators, students, and policymakers.
UEI Research Seed Funds realizes this goal by supporting activities necessary to advance
an early stage of a research project that can develop into a competitive research proposal
to an external funding organization within a year of the completion of the UEI Research
Seed Fund period. The UEI Research Seed Fund period is no more than a year. This year the
maximum to be awarded to selected proposals equals $10,000 per award.
Award recipients agree to use the Institute as their administrative department for
proposed research projects and future grant awards related to their Institute-supported
research as a way of sustaining this seed-funding program. Researchers who have the
Institute administer their grants receive administrative support such as budgeting,
accounting, and purchasing services. They also receive part of the in-direct costs that is
normally dedicated to a department.
It is never too early to bring us your ideas for a proposal. We can provide you feedback
and advice for developing your ideas into stronger proposals.
Proposals should be no longer than five pages and include an abstract. They should also
identify the research questions to be investigated, provide a brief literature review,
describe the methodology, and data to be used, and data collection methods.
Send your proposals to UEI@.utsa.edu by May 15, 2019.

The fastest way to transform presentations into classroom conversations. Imagine if you
could engage every student in your class, every day. What if you could instantly see who’s
confused and who’s ready for more? That’s the power of Pear Deck. And now, with the Pear
Deck for Google Slides Add-on, you can add the magic of formative assessments and
interactive questions to your presentations right from Google Slides.

The 5 Interactive Question Types in Google Slides
There are 5 Interactive Slides or Question types. They allow you to ask every student for
their answers, opinions, ideas and creativity. When you ask students a question through
Pear Deck, every student answers on his or her own screen. You can choose to display
answers anonymously on the projector screen and you can see each individual answer on your
Teacher Dashboard. With every question type you can put content on the main slide (which
will show on the projector screen) and then configure the way students will respond.
Content you can put on the main slide area:
• Text
• List
• Image
• YouTube
