The following is a message that you can send out to the colleges asking them to forward it to their faculty.
Faculty,
Since this is the first semester of university-wide implementation of the policy that midterm grade reports are required for all undergraduates, and to improve the midterm grades reporting rate, the deadline for submitting midterm grades has been extended by one week to Friday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m.
We encourage faculty to submit midterm grades for all undergraduates (except for those students enrolled in classes that have been approved for an exemption to the policy) by the extended deadline. This is important as we attempt to enhance the academic success of our students. Academic advisors and others will reach out to students not performing well at midterm.

Attached you will find information regarding the Fall 2014 Commencement. The Memo from the Provost, the Regalia Rental information and Faculty Response Card are also attached for your review and response to the Dean's Office by Monday, November 10, 2014. The Fall 2014 Commencement will be held in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
Commencement will be divided into three ceremonies. The faculty will be expected to attend only the ceremony for our college, Ceremony #2.
Ceremony #1 on Friday, December 19, at 4:00 p.m., College of Liberal and Fine Arts, College of Engineering, University College

(TPR NEWS) -- Internet safety has become the new "stranger danger" among middle school students. This week, Google gave a lesson to students at Vale Middle School on how to secure their information, and protect themselves from involuntarily going viral with an embarrassing images or videos. The company's Online Safety Roadshow is designed to teach kids the risks of weak passwords, giving out too much information, and sharing photos. Google spokeswoman Jamie Hill says the pre-teen and early teen years are the best ages to target students for online safety.

Colleagues- This is a reminder that The Office of Undergraduate Research has spring and summer 2015 scholarships for UG researchers (priority for first-time researchers). The long semester awards of $1000 (or $2000 for summer) also allows winners to pay in-state tuition for the awarded period. These opportunities are competitive and there will be 2-3 awards per college including Honors depending on number of applicants. Non-college research units are welcome to apply as well. More information on attached pdf version of the online instructions. Spring 2015 applications are due October 31st by 5pm. Summer 2015 applications are due March 13th. NOTE: A letter of reference from faculty mentor, student transcript, and a short "proposal" is required ON STUDENT APPLICATION to ensure that the faculty mentor is in place and ready to facilitate the experience.

SECC Total for COEHD 10/9/14

The SECC campaign is now in full swing! Have you made your pledge to SECC? There will be weekly drawings for UTSA football game tickets and other great prizes for anyone who donates early. Make your pledge early and have more chances to win!
The latest campaign report is in, and so far 23 faculty and staff in the College of Education and Human Development have made a gift, for a participation rate of 7.6%. Let's increase the momentum and strive for COEHD to reach 100% this year!

Affirmative Action officer needed

Hello all:
As you may or may not know, Dr. Carmen Roman-Shriver, the director of our new nutrition and dietetics program, will be retiring after the spring semester so that she may focus on her garden, and the other really important things!
She will be missed.
We will be searching for a new program director/nutrition researcher. The search committee is in place, but we are in need of an affirmative action advocate. I know that many of you in our college have been trained to serve in this role, but it has been ineffective for me to try and reach you by phone.
Please let me know if you would be willing to help us out by serving as our affirmative action advocate for this important search.
