AAS Upcoming Events
by Jo Ann Jones
Sent on behalf of Karla Broadus, Director of African American Studies:
African American Studies is inviting you to join us meeting with Dr. Kevin Cokley. Dr. Cokley's research and scholarship challenges the notion that African American students are anti-intellectual, and critically reexamines the impact of racial and ethnic identity and gender on academic achievement. His work also evaluates the impact of the impostor phenomenon in academic and mental health outcomes, especially among ethnic minority students and women. Dr. Cokley is also a graduate member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
Dr. Kevin Cokley is our visiting research scholar with UTSA African American Studies program. He will present "Psychological Impact of Racism: How Students of Color Maintain Wellness" at 6:00pm, Wednesday 10/5/2015 at DB 1.124, Downtown campus and lecture "The Myth of Anti-Intellectualism" at Main campus on 10/06/2016.
Please join us with your friends. This event is free and open to all UTSA students. See attached flyer for further information.

2 journal issues recently published by the Association of Mexican American Educators (AMAE) Journal
by Patricia Sanchez
Hi COEHD,
It's been a busy summer at the Association of Mexican American Educators (AMAE) Journal, housed in the COEHD.
In June we published an open issue, and in early September we completed an invited issue.
Please view and share with students and colleagues.
Open Issue
http://amaejournal.utsa.edu/index.php/amae/issue/view/28
Invited Issue: Testimonio as Radical Story-telling and Creative Resistance
http://amaejournal.utsa.edu/index.php/amae/issue/view/29
The AMAE Journal is now in its 10th year of online open-access-making its content readily available on the principle that accessible research to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
A special thanks to Mike Brock for all online technical assistance.
Thank you for your support.
And please consider submitting a manuscript, essay, book review, or poetry, or joining as a reviewer.

Best,
Patricia

Re: [Coehd] Reminder: College Meeting - Wed., Sept. 21
by Jo Ann Jones
Hi everyone,
To answer everyones question: Yes! The meeting will still be happening! Dr. Giles accidentally sent the invite from his calendar to the listserv. The "cancelled" notification some of you are receiving is actually the removal of that accidental invite from Dr. Giles' calendar.
I hope this clears up any confusion!
Thank you,
Jo Ann

Subject: SERA News 5: Deadline Extended for Proposal Submissions
Greetings,
The SERA Board met this weekend for their Fall Board Meeting.
Because the Sunday deadline fell a few days earlier in September than last year, the SERA Board decided, out of a courtesy to members, to extend the proposal submission deadline to:
Friday September 23 at 8 AM
In addition, SERA's 40th anniversary is this February. Everyone who is registered for the SERA 2017 conference is invited to attend a celebration party that will be held at the Institute of Texan Cultures on the Thursday of the conference.
