GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP FOR Education and Curriculum<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/graduate_assistant...>
We are looking for a graduate student for graduate assistantship working with Dean's office in the College of Education and Human Development. The graduate assistantship will be for 10 - 19 hours per week beginning November 2017. Extension of the position to Spring 2018 is possible, contingent on funding.
Description of Job Duties
Work with team of faculty and administrators to explore program and policy options associated with innovative EC-12 education in Texas. Experience with library searches, finding and reviewing educational policy documents, and writing briefs is preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include good interpersonal and organizational skills; responsible, flexible and able to maintain a professional attitude.
Qualifications
Applicants must be current graduate students in the College of Education and Human Development. Candidates must maintain enrollment in at least six hours of graduate course during the full period of the assistantship. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in graduate work, or if entering the program, a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work. Successful experience in working with students in a helping relationship is desirable; experience in use of computers is required. Preference will be given to students who plan on graduating in Spring 2018 or later.
Salary
Candidates may be paid $11.99/ hour.

Downtown Campus - Pedestrian and Shuttle Service Routes from VIA bus stops to DTC<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/downtown_campus_pe...>
VIA bus detours, scheduled to begin on October 15, 2017, have temporarily relocated several bus stops from the Downtown Campus to other locations nearby. To assist our campus community in safely navigating these areas, the attached map provides suggested pedestrian routes to and from the temporary bus stops located at Milam Park and at the S. Santa Rosa and W. Nueva intersection.
In addition, Campus Services will offer temporary shuttle service between the Downtown Campus and nearby alternate bus stops. This route will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Please refer to the attached shuttle service map.
UTSA Police will provide additional patrols around these temporary bus stops and the campus during this time.

The Office of the President, working with the VPR and Development Divisions, are strategically placing effort on increasing the quantity and quality of applications focused on securing scholarly awards that have an impact on university ranking. One such faculty scholarly award is the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowship funding opportunity that is due April 11, 2018. The Yale Club of South Texas is hosting a talk by Meg Urry, the Israel Munson Professor of Physics at Yale on October 20th, from 5:30 to 7:30, near the Pearl. While her primary research is on supermassive black holes, this talk will be about women in STEM. I’ve been told that she’s a terrific speaker, and there’s a short reception before the talk. The talk is free (you can donate $10 if you feel you need to), there are about 50 spots available, and we ask that people who plan to come register at:

Counseling doctoral student receives Genie B. Davis Scholarship<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/counseling_doctora...>
Laurel Jackson Cook, a doctoral student in the Department of Counseling, received the Genie B. Davis scholarship based on a nomination from Dr. Mark Jones, lecturer in the department. She will be receiving the award at the Biofeedback Society of Texas conference on October 21st here at UTSA. The scholarship will include all fees necessary for Cook to become Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA) certified.

Road improvements along Frio Street will affect VIA service in and around Centro Plaza beginning October 15, 2017. VIA bus routes, 86926 and 86927, that stop at the UTSA Downtown Campus are expected to be rerouted for approximately two months. To assist with the temporary changes, VIA will install A-frame message boards at the bus stops directly outside of the UTSA Downtown Campus. PRESS: Exciting new opportunity to present research at UTSA<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/press_exciting_new...>
We are pleased to announce that the Center for Research and Policy in Education (CRPE) at the UTSA College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) will sponsor a research-oriented seminar series, the Policy and Research in Education Seminar Series (PRESS), which will provide a platform for graduate students and faculty across campus to discuss their current research and receive feedback on works-in-progress. We would like to invite our UTSA colleagues from across different disciplines, including but not limited to education, psychology, sociology, public policy, demography, and economics, to present at and attend PRESS. We are particularly interested in research on educational issues related to underserved and underrepresented students from early childhood through K-12 and into higher education and the workforce.
Presentations will be held once a month (see schedule below). Each session will be 90 minutes long, featuring two presentations (45 minutes for each presenter, including Q&A). We expect to kick off the series on October 18 and we are NOW accepting requests to present during Fall 2018 (for sessions in October, November, and December 2018). Much, though not all, of what we present at PRESS is work in progress, so feel free to come with new ideas or projects in their preliminary stages - finished papers are not expected.

AERA Congressional Fellowship Program<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/aera_congressional...>
The American Educational Research Association invites applications for the AERA Congressional Fellowship Program. This new program was launched in 2016 during AERA’s Centennial year. The third cohort of fellows will commence a one-year fellowship in September 2018.
The goals of the fellowship are: (1) to contribute to the effective use of scientific knowledge about education in the formation of public policy; (2) to educate the scientific community about the development of public policy; and (3) to establish a more effective liaison between education researchers and federal policymakers.
The fellowship pays a competitive salary.
When
AERA is accepting fellowship applications. The deadline to apply is December 15, 2017. The fellowship term starts on September 1, 2018 and ends on August 31, 2019.
Who
This fellowship is open to doctoral scientists from any discipline relevant to education research. Researchers at all stages in their careers are encouraged to apply.

Below is information on nominations for the 2018 President's Distinguished Achievement Awards and the 2018 Richard S. Howe Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award.
2018 President's Distinguished Achievement Awards
Below is the link to information on the 2018 President's Distinguished Achievement Awards. There are seven award categories:
* Advancing Globalization
* Community Engagement: A second Community Engagement award has been added to recognize non-tenure-track faculty.
* Core Curriculum
* Performance, Creative Production, or Other Scholarly Achievement
* Research Achievement: For 2018, the Research Achievement award has been expanded to include subcategories for STEM-related research and that in other disciplines.
* Teaching Excellence
* University Service

Specific, relevant information, including each award's expressed purpose, materials to be submitted for each nominee's portfolio, and a list of former award recipients are available online.
