The San Antonio Mathematics Collaborative (SAMC) provides secondary mathematics teachers who work in high-needs schools with ongoing professional development and classroom mentoring. The current cycle is in its second year and includes 29 middle and high school teachers and 13 dual credit pre-calculus teachers. During the three-week summer session, participants work with project directors, mentors, and master teachers not only to develop deeper understandings of content, but also to develop classroom-ready activities focused on problem solving and higher-order thinking skills. Teachers also attended the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching in Ft. Worth, TX. During the academic year participants will attend one session per month at UTSA tailored to their needs and will receive classroom-based mentoring by university partners. The pre-calculus group will also teach one lesson at UTSA. SAMC is a collaboration between the COEHD (Dr. Emily Bonner), ATE (Mrs. Effie Mata), and COS (Dr. Betty Travis, Dr. Priya Prasad, and Dr. Cody Patterson). Taylor Eighmy officially named president of UTSA<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/taylor_eighmy_offi...>
The University of Texas System Board of Regents named T. Taylor Eighmy, Ph.D., the next president of The University of Texas at San Antonio. Eighmy, currently the vice chancellor for research and engagement at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, will begin his new role Sept. 1. Regents approved the appointment at a special called meeting of the board today. Eighmy was unanimously selected as the sole finalist for the position at a board meeting last month. Under state law, university governing boards must name finalists for a presidency at least 21 days before making an appointment.

Dear Colleagues,
After a 6-month internal IT/process project, we have eliminated ECRT from Effort Certification process. ECRT was a very inefficient and ineffective platform that caused ambiguity among all of us and led to several manual interventions regarding the data flow between PeopleSoft and ECRT platform. On top of it, we had to pay for it. We will no longer use ECRT.
The new process has been streamlined and it starts with an email sent to you (please see rest of the document for what the email looks like) with a link to an interface on UTShare and an effort card in pdf. In 4 clicks, you will reach your effort card and with the 5th click, you will either approve or deny the effort card. Your RSC director will be able to answer questions in regards to your effort card. Especially if you deny, please put your comments in the comment box and we will get back with you. The application allows you to approve/deny your effort card on smart phones, tablets, etc. More flexibility, less faculty time, very simple (it was supposed to be), all under our control, all data and responses are time-stamped, and free of charge.
You will receive two emails on Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

Our deadline is Friday, Aug 11, 2017. Due to lack of access to Internet, if you cannot complete the effort card, we will follow up with you. Please make all the effort to help us with the deadline.

Good afternoon!
The effort certification period for 9/1/2016 - 2/28/2017 is now open and VPR is happy to announce that a newer, streamlined process will be used for viewing and certifying your effort.
New Effort Certification System - How Does it Work?
You will not be required to login to the eCRT system this period and will instead receive an e-mail notification with a link to your effort card as a PDF document.

Clicking the personalized link will open the review and approval screen where you will be able to review your effort card and certify effort by selecting "Approve" or "Deny" and clicking the "Submit" button (see below).

What should I do after certifying my effort card?
Nothing, you're done! Once you've clicked the "Submit" button, your approval or disapproval will be logged and a notification sent to the Office of Sponsored Projects. If you disapproved, your RSC will contact you to determine the issue with your effort card and how to resolve it.

The University of Texas at San Antonio recently welcomed educators from Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Guerrero and Veracruz, Mexico as part of the 2017 International Mobility Scholarship Program. The UTSA Office of ESL Services and the UTSA College of Education and Human Development are hosting these high school teachers for a 5-week program that provides them the opportunity to increase their linguistic, cultural, and pedagogical knowledge and skills. Dear Colleagues,
I hope you are enjoying some much deserved down time this summer. I wanted to share an open event that will take place at the DTC on Monday July 17 from 12-1:00 PM, DBB 3.110. As you may have heard, we are working with the CAST Tech Project as the University partner. The fall start date for the school's opening is much anticipated, as we have worked to develop ideas around professional educator preparation, field based educator preparation, teacher development, mentorship, university school partnerships, and partnerships with our economic partners in the community in this wonderful high school environment. Now that the foundation has been established, we are able to work with faculty who are interested in being a part of the research that can take place in the project.
Carmen Fies will be holding an informational session, with Amaury Nora , Associate Dean for Research, to discuss where faculty research interests lie and what opportunities exist for new or existing research projects to take place within the scope of the project.
We hope that you are able to attend if you are interested in research opportunities related to this project.

Mid-Western Educational Researcher Call for Papers:
Special Issue on Institutional Data and Research
The Institutional Research office plays a unique and important role in the higher education environment, especially with the increased focus on the use of student data in decision making. Most IR offices support a broad range of university planning initiatives, and assemble a variety of qualitative and quantitative reports to be used in decision making. These offices oftentimes also dually handle assessment of student learning, house university surveys, and provide vital research support to key stakeholders.
The Editorial staff of Mid-Western Educational Researcher, in collaboration with Guest Editor Tasha Almond-Dannenbring of the South Dakota Board of Regents, issues a call for manuscripts to be published in 2018 that will highlight Institutional Research and its role in higher education.
The Editors welcome manuscripts that explore an array of topics related, but not limited to, these themes or topics:
Research addressing:
· Measurement and analysis of student-level data to inform policy and decision making in higher education.
· Key institutional operating metrics used in planning, program review, or finance.
IR Office Practices:
· Role of IR office in strategic planning.
· Use of data visualization and business intelligence tools to translate data-heavy information into a manageable form.
· Review of data warehousing/data marts - challenges and solutions for IR office.
· Use of IR data and information to articulate strategic priorities and drive institutional change.
· Use of data related to assessment of student learning to inform policy and decision making at the campus or system level (if multi-campus system).
· Essays/commentaries on the evolution and practices of IR, and the IR office/position.
· Use of mixed methods research to generate new information needed to inform policy and/or guide decision makers in planning.
Best Practices:
· Best practices in IR for small, medium, and large colleges and start-up IR offices.
· Best practices/examples of uses of Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) data for benchmarking.
· Best practices/use of data in measuring student learning outcomes, persistence, or retention.
· Best practices and process in collection of student learning outcomes specifically related to assessment of general education.
Timeline and Submission Guidelines:
Proposal will be accepted on a rolling basis until the deadline of January 15, 2018
Interested authors should email a proposal to the Guest Editor that includes the following items:
1. Author Information: Name(s), position(s), mailing address(es), phone number(s), and e-mail address(es). Please note the corresponding author for the submission.
2. Title of proposed article.
3. Proposal components:
· relevance of the topic to IR in higher education
· clearly stated contribution to knowledge base or understanding of IR in higher education
· description of perspective and/or guiding framework (theoretical/conceptual/
practical)
· description of literature review
· for empirical studies – clear description of research methods (participants, research
questions/hypotheses, instruments, proposed analysis, etc.)
· current status of proposed manuscript
· explanation of significance, implications, relationship of conclusions to findings,
generalizability, or usefulness
4. A bio of less than 100 words for each author that includes relevant experience with topic.
Publication Timeline:
Proposals due by January 15, 2018
Authors informed of decision by February 15, 2018
Manuscript submission due by approximately May 1, 2018
Peer review completed within 6-8 weeks
Revision and resubmission by August 1, 2018
Publication in late 2018

Higher Education: The School of Education, Loyola University Chicago, announces a one-year Clinical Assistant Professor position with primary teaching and some administrative responsibilities for the Higher Education M.Ed. and Ph.D. programs starting Fall 2017 through Summer Session A 2018. The M.Ed. and Ph.D. programs prepare educational leaders for administrative, instructional, and research roles in post-secondary institutions and agencies within the Chicago metropolitan area and beyond.
The selected individual will teach graduate courses in: leadership, student development, organization and governance, evaluation, and/or the student affairs profession. The successful applicant must demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body and profession in alignment with the School of Education’s focus on preparing professional educators for social action through education.
Desired qualifications include: 1) earned doctorate in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field by August 2017 (ABD considered); 2) 3 years or more of administrative experience in postsecondary education; 3) demonstrated record of effective teaching at the graduate level preferred; and 4) desire to focus teaching on issues related to preparing higher education administrators and scholars to engage in transformative change for social justice.

The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs is seeking a Director of Educational Technology to provide leadership in the strategic planning and implementation of existing and emerging educational technologies to support excellence in teaching and learning. The Director will support the Assistant Dean in leading NYUSPS to international prominence in online learning assuring that all courses and programs align with the school and university’s mission and provide high quality global opportunities for students. S/he will be responsible for researching and evaluating high quality existing and emerging technologies, including learning management systems (LMS), synchronous communications tools, media asset creation, classroom technologies and integrated social networking tools. The Director is also responsible for developing and implementing data collection and evaluation methods, including LMS data extraction. S/he will support and consult with the Director of Faculty Development and academic departments on designing and delivering new online programming appropriate for a diverse student body and a variety of disciplines. The Director will serve as a thought leader in the cultivation of teaching and learning research and scholarship as it relates to higher education technologies and online learning.
The Director will report to the Assistant Dean for Academic Excellence and work within the Center for Academic Excellence and Support (CAES). CAES is a faculty-centered service group dedicated to supporting the improvement of teaching practice and the use of emerging technologies to advance student learning in traditional and online courses and programs. The department currently supports all academic programs within SPS, which includes 2100 faculty members and 3,100 unique courses per year with approximately 4,300 credit students and 20,000 noncredit students.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in postsecondary instruction and student engagement in learning through the use of innovative and advanced technologies in a variety of modalities. The candidate should be able to speak to and show evidence of innovative and effective online curriculum design and teaching excellence with technology enhanced pedagogies and speak about key concepts of learning, such as active learning, metacognition and the transfer of knowledge from multidisciplinary perspectives on learning. Prior work experience should provide evidence of the ability to integrate media, gaming, and other technology tools and utilize technologies for data-driven decision making and quality assurance.

Media:
Master’s Degree required, Ph.D. preferred
Minimum of 7 years with designing curriculum for online formats within higher education Demonstrated teaching effectiveness utilizing higher education technologies
Demonstrated knowledge and application of research of the learning sciences to technology enhanced classroom
Experience in evaluating technology and online programming
Experience in evaluating and measuring teacher and student performances in technology enhanced classrooms.
Experience in managing staff, budgets, and schedules
Research experience highly preferred
