Nov. 15 and 16, the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures will facilitate the local participation in “Dialogues Across the Puerto Rican and Caribbean Diaspora,” which we will livestream at the ITC auditorium.
Smithsonian Affiliations, the Museo y Centro de Estudios Humanísticos (MCEH-JCN) and the Conservatorio de Músico will bring U. S.-based scholars of Puerto Rican and Latino Studies, and other Caribbean scholars to Puerto Rico to engage in exchanges with Puerto Rico Island-based scholars about migration, music, art, literature, education, history, and diasporic experiences.
This symposium received Federal support from the Latino Initiatives Pool, administered by the Smithsonian Latino Center.

Brief description: American law and attitudes towards marriage, homosexuality, and gender have changed rapidly. Some celebrate the change and fight for even more; others lament the change and worry that religious freedom is being deeply threatened. Distrust and open hostility often divide these two camps. Does it have to be this way? Can we have a thoughtful, productive, and peaceful dialogue on these issues and move toward an agreeable resolution?
