Good morning everyone,
Please see the below email, sent on behalf of the Office of the Vice President for Business Affairs.
Thank you!
Want to help brighten a child’s holiday this year?
UTSA Dept. of Public Safety is part of the Target Heroes & Helpers program, providing 50 local children with $100 Target Gift Cards.
The children will shop for their families and themselves for the holiday, accompanied by a police officer (Heroes).
Helpers will assist with wrapping gifts and chatting with family members.
Last year’s event was filled with good feelings, laughter, and smiles. Watch the video here<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.utsa....>.

Judges needed, urgent for first round, would love more for the UTSA-based finals as well
by Vittorio Marone
This year, San Antonio is partnering with the Annette Strauss Institute at UT-Austin to bring their signature youth civic engagement event, Speak Up! Speak Out!<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmoody.ut...>, to San Antonio.
Middle and high school students are asked to identify the big issues facing our community and offer their best solutions, and we need your help in identifying the best of the best solutions. We have an urgent need for folks who can help with the first round of student competitions this Thursday 11/29 and next Monday 12/3 (1 or 2 hour shifts), and we would also welcome additional judges for the final round at UTSA Dec. 5. Please go to this sign-up sheet<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sign...> to sign up for the school-based events, or send an email directly to organizer Jeanne Russell if you would like to sign up for either or both events.
Dec. 5 Speak Up! Speak Out Agenda
9:15AM Kickoff, UTSA Retama Auditorium, Molly Cox, SA2020
Judges Final Check-In
9:30AM Mayor Ron Nirenberg welcome
9:45-10:30 First three student panels, breakout rooms
10:30-10:45 Break
10:45-11:30 Second three panels, breakout rooms
11:30-12:00 Lunch in Sombrilla
12:00-12:45 Awards Ceremony
Student teams from Krueger Middle School, Advanced Learning Academy, International School of the Americas, CAST Tech, and CAST STEM will have an opportunity to be recognized in several categories. Most exciting is a "judge's choice" category, where you can single out a project that you would like to help advance - through a policy change, a small investment, or a partnership with the student team. Finalists will advance to a statewide competition in Austin in February, and several student teams will also have the opportunity to share their projects locally at area events, including SA2020’s Annual Impact Report Luncheon in January.
San Antonio is creating a prototype for the state of Texas, and we expect this event, hosted by UTSA and in partnership with P16 Plus Council, SA2020, UTSA Center for Civic Engagement, City of San Antonio, MOVE Texas, and ESC 20, to grow in the years to come. Join us to make it a huge success!

Spectrum Call for Submissions
by Margo DelliCarpini
Dear COEHD faculty and staff,
The College is currently taking submissions for the 2018 Spectrum Magazine. This issue we decided to open the process for developing stories to the college. All are invited to submit completed stories, travel abroad, photographs, and awards and honors for publication consideration. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, December 19.
The submissions will be reviewed by the college leadership and communication team. Faculty and staff member's submissions that are chosen for publication in the magazine will be contacted in January. Submissions not used for the Spectrum Magazine may be used for the weekly COEHDnews, the COEHD website, or other COEHD communications materials. Alignment with Dr. Eighmy's themes should be a consideration (not overtly stated, but connection to one of the themes). Additionally, a focus on your innovative work and its impact will help readers understand and situate your work based on that community impact.
For a full list of guidelines and requirements for the four areas (editorial, travel abroad, photographs, awards) as well as the submission links, please visit:
http://education.utsa.edu/about/spectrum_submissions<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Feducation...>/
Thank you,
~Margo
