April is the Month of the Military Child

Good morning,
Please join me in celebrating April as the Month of the Military Child, and consider including the following no-cost opportunities for our students:
1. We have an excellent team of speakers who are willing to come to our courses for a presentation on the experiences of military children. If you wish to make arrangements for such a class visit, please let me know and I'll connect you with the presenters.
2. On April 15 is national "Purple Up!" Day. Essentially, this is an event that is intended to signal support for military youth by wearing purple that day. It would be wonderful if you could invite your students to wear purple that day, and do so yourselves, and take a class picture of the whole group. I would like to post as many as possible of these to our Center Facebook page.

ALL COEHD-Related Facebook Pages!

Department Chairs, Center Directors, Laboratory Directors and other Facebook page administrators:
Our presence on the internet is boosted by departments, centers, and special events having a presence through social media. However, due to Facebook policy regarding access to Facebook pages, these COEHD-related pages are vulnerable to being “locked out” (forgotten or lost password, or when someone leaves COEHD) when steps have not been taken to retain administration or access to the account.
To prevent a lockout from occurring, I am asking that all department, center, laboratory, and COEHD-related Facebook pages add an admin user. This would allow COEHD administrative access to the page, retain “ownership” to COEHD , and prevent a lockout situation. This admin account would not be used for monitoring, posting, or management of the page, but rather as a means of access to ensure that the pages remain COEHD connected. In the event of lockout, access to your page could be gained through COEHD communications.
I also encourage you to make sure you have a similar backup for your pages by having more than one admin user in your particular area for your page. To add an admin user:

· Sign in as an admin user
· Select SETTINGS on the top right corner
· Select PAGE ROLES from the settings menu

Dr. Rosalind Horowitz, professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching, was invited to give a Plenary Address at the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE) Conference by the Research and Evaluation SIG in Chicago. Her presentation was entitled, “Toward a rhetorical theory of oracy in literacy. Multilingual, multi-cultural, multi-national contextual considerations,” and began a day-long series of international talks on orality and literacy in bilingual/multilingual education.
