It is a pleasure to invite you to our 5th Annual COEHD, UTSA Gathering at the AERA's 100th Anniversary Conference (1916 to 2016) to be held April 8-12, 2016, in Washington, D.C. This year's event of toasting to our UTSA presenters and celebrating of this 100th AERA year will take place on April 8th, Friday at 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Marriott Hotel. Please mark your personal calendars and join us! You are welcome to bring colleagues, family, and friends. It is always a joy to reunite away from home over a beverage and appetizer!
The specific location in the Marriott will be announced early this week. We simply would like you to include this gathering in your
AERA Conference planning, and to make a point of joining in on the festivities.
Your research presentation at AERA is much appreciated as it raises the stature of our University and College. If you are not presenting, this is an opportunity to participate in dialogues, learn about new educational research directions, and acquire new knowledge that will advance your research and thinking. AERA will be held in our beautiful city of San Antonio next year. Planning for next year can begin at this year's meeting!

The appointment, which will begin on June 1, has its primary assignment in the School of Education with a secondary assignment in the Department of African, African American, and Diaspora Studies.

The Hispanic-Serving Institutions-Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and Articulation Grant Competition is accepting applications through May 3, 2016!
Purpose of Program: The purpose of the grant is to: (1) increase the number of Hispanic and other low-income students attaining degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics; and (2) to develop model transfer and articulation agreements between two-year and four-year institutions in such fields.
Funds may be used for:
* Improving academic quality of STEM programs through curriculum revision and development, or faculty development;
* Developing research opportunities for students in STEM fields;
* Providing or improving student services including counseling, tutoring, mentoring or establishing learning communities;
* Encouraging secondary students to pursue STEM degrees and careers through outreach activities; and
* Improving STEM facilities and equipment needed for science instruction and computer laboratories.
Eligibility Institutions that meet the definition of a Hispanic-Serving Institution may be eligible to apply for funding. For 2016 the U.S Department of Education and the HSI Division have reviewed IPEDS data to identify Institutions that meet the HSI definition. A list of institutions meeting the HSI definition for 2016 will be posted on the program's website.
