by Laura Earleywine
COEHD Staff/Supervisors,
Good morning.
The email below is reminder to fill out Employee Goals in Peoplesoft for Staff titles.
The UTSA process is for COEHD Staff that are benefit's eligible. This process is not for student titles (reader grader, graduate assistant, teaching assistant, student assistant etc.) or TT/NTT faculty appointments.
The ePerformance system is set up to follow the HOP 3/3.1, employees that are .5 FTE and above will have documents automatically uploaded in Peoplesoft.
https://www.utsa.edu/hop/chapter3/3-1.html
All employee, in conjunction with their managers, should discuss priorities for the upcoming year and develop goals. Goals should be simplistically written and clearly define what the employee is going to do (use SMART goal guidelines).
Please let me know if you have questions.
Thanks,
Laura Earleywine

Subject: Performance Management - Employee Goals Due November 7th
COEHD Employees and Supervisors,
As we kick off the new performance year the first step in the process is goal setting. All employee, in conjunction with their managers, should discuss priorities for the upcoming year and develop goals. Goals should be simplistically written and clearly define what the employee is going to do (use SMART goal guidelines). Each employee should have between three and seven goals, which should be strategic in nature, not daily tasks. All goals are due to be entered in the ePerformance platform and approved by their manager by November 7, 2020. I recommend to have your employees submit their goals in the ePerformance platform by October 30th so managers will then have through November 7th to review and approve the goals in the system to meet the university deadline.
There are several tools and resources available on the Performance Management webpage that explain the information on the new process. I would recommend each leader review these to ensure they understand the process and help guide their employee's along the way.
* Facilitator lead Performance management training sessions for employees and managers. You can sign up here<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmytrain...> (Course title: Introduction to Performance Management at UTSA <SD 640>). Dates for upcoming training is on the website. The PowerPoint of the "live" training will be available on the website at the end of this week and a video recording of one of the sessions that we have conducted will be available on the website by the end of October.
* Class highlight videos to help give a great overview and snapshot of each process (they are about 8-12 min). One of the videos covers an overview of performance management, one is about SMART goals and the last one is on navigating the ePerformance platform in PeopleSoft.
* Learning Guides and Job aids are available too. The first 4 job aids are for any employee. There are 5 job aids for managers/supervisors.
To access this information please visit the Performance Management Website: https://www.utsa.edu/hr/performance-management/<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.uts...> and go to the "Performance Management Training" section.

Proposal Intake Form reminder, new funding opportunities, and upcoming NIH virtual seminar
by Iwan Notowidigdo
Greetings colleagues,
A few items for you to review and consider.
I just want to give a reminder that we have a new streamlined proposal intake form (replacing the old Wufoo intake form). Go to the following link and log into your personalized research dashboard https://comal.it.utsa.edu/osp/. Pull down the menu under My Proposals and click on Intake Form. Submit your intent to apply as soon as possible to ensure your work is given proper attention from me (yes, let's set up a meeting to talk any support I can offer) and the right RSC.
Attached, I have compiled an assortment of mostly federal funding opportunities that have been recently announced. There are some strong possibilities for matches between your education research interests and what funders are willing to fund. Please examine them closely, and do get in touch with me if there's anything of interest.
Finally, starting Tuesday October 27th and running until Friday, the 30th, the National Institutes of Health is running their 2020 Virtual Seminar. Registration is free and participants may attend as many or as few sessions as needed. You may review it at this link https://nihvirtualseminar2020.vfairs.com/en/ and register.
Thank you and have a great weekend,
Iwan

Panel Discussion: Critical Race Perspectives on the Use of Research Evidence

On October 1, the Foundation hosted a virtual panel titled “Critical Race Perspectives on the Use of Research Evidence,” featuring researchers Jamila Michener, Janelle Scott, and Fabienne Doucet discussing ideas about how to center race in efforts to improve the use of research in policy and practice. As Senior VP of Program Vivian Tseng remarked at the outset of the event, the Foundation's work on the use of research evidence "has often neglected to account for the ways in which race and racism matter for what research is produced, which research is used, and who benefits from the ways research is deployed. … It is our hope that that a critical race lens can help us envision ways of bringing research to bear on policies, practices, and movements that disrupt racial hierarchies.”

President’s Comment: Anti-Racist Education is Essential for Research Universities

By Adam Gamoran
As the President of a Foundation whose research grantees are almost uniformly also funded by the federal government, I am appalled by the recent OMB directive and presidential executive order prohibiting anti-racist training for federal agencies, contractors, and grantees. In a new post for the NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools, I've issued a statement on these actions: “For a nation founded on principles of equality which have never been fully realized, nothing could be more patriotic” than cultivating in researchers a deep understanding of injustice and encouraging them “to carry out studies that develop and test strategies to dismantle systems of racial and economic inequality.”

Dear Colleagues,
UTSA and the COEHD are excited to announce that we are in preliminary discussions with San Antonio ISD regarding a Senate Bill 1882 partnership in which UTSA, as the operating partner, would oversee three of SAISD's premier Dual Language Academies: Bonham Academy, Irving Dual Language Academy, and Travis Early College High School. San Antonio ISD will submit a letter of intent to the Texas Education Agency; over the course of this school year, SAISD and UTSA will plan and submit an application for this partnership with UTSA as the operating partner of the schools. Our intent is to engage faculty and the community and others as we move forward in this process. This partnership would provide opportunities for educator and leadership development, and research; and will build on the already existing collaborations that UTSA maintains with SAISD. A formal announcement will be made once SAISD submits the letter of intent.
For further information on SB 1882 partnerships, please see https://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/district-initiatives/texas-partnershi...<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftea.tex...>.
