Latino Policy Symposium<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/latino_policy_symp...>
The Policy Studies Center is hosting its first statewide Latino Policy Symposium to address public policies that contribute to the well-being of Latino families. The theme is Path to Power and Prosperity. This working summit provides an opportunity for public agencies, non-profits to review the impact of local and state policies targeting education, labor/employment/housing, and health and human services. While Latino advocates have made policy achievements, there is still a need to invest in schools, increase jobs and wages, increase homeownership, and improve health and neighborhood environments to help strengthen Latino families and provide pathways to economic mobility.
Symposium deliberations include topics of Political Power, Applied policy analysis support across issues, Pro-active development of policy proposals (state and local), Communications network that informs, educates, and supports organized advocacy

Dr. Valenta is a principal in San Antonio ISD and her dissertation was titled “Super-mujeres: A Narrative Inquiry of Latina Assistant Superintendents in South Central Texas”. PeopleSoft Hardware Infrastructure to be Replaced this Week
PeopleSoft Will Be Unavailable April 8-10
> Saturday, April 8 through Monday, April 10
All PeopleSoft/UTShare activity will cease beginning 10:00 p.m. Friday, April 7
During the three-day transition, PeopleSoft will not be available to users. The outage will impact all faculty, staff and student workers.
This includes the ability to purchase goods and services, authorize travel, and make HR changes. Employees won’t have access to paystubs, W2, vacation/sick leave information, and more.

What’s Happening?
UT Shared Information Services (UT SIS) will replace the current hardware infrastructure with new state of the art equipment to support the UTShare/PeopleSoft systems. The migration to this new infrastructure affects all PeopleSoft environments being used on our campuses. The new design will ensure redundancy between two sites (Austin and Arlington) for greater performance and reliability and the elimination of down time for users.
The existing Shared.utsystem.edu domain name will be changed to utshare.utsystem.edu. Users should look for and update:
· Domain names that you have imbedded within webpages
· Domain names within any documentation
· Domain names marked as browser favorites or shortcuts

AERA-J Sessions Flyers and Registration Links

Colleagues,
As part of AERA and at the request of Division J Vice President Ana Martinez Aleman, I am chairing a Social Justice Initiative for AERA Division J (Postsecondary). The initiative is a community-oriented set of activities in the host city that has been under way during the conference for 6 years as part of division activities. This year, divisional members are providing funds to the Parent Academy of UTSA P-20 and also offering four free workshops for the community. In a sense, the workshops are a parallel conference for community members that is put on with AERA scholar resources, but is free to community members.
As you can see, we have sessions on Saturday, April 29 and on Monday, May 1 (fliers for each are attached). The following presentations by national scholars and local co-presenter are occurring on the given day:

The Policy Studies Center is hosting its first statewide Latino Policy Symposium to address public policies that contribute to the well-being of Latino families. This working summit provides an opportunity for public agencies, non-profits to review the impact of local and state policies targeting education, labor/employment/housing, and health and human services. While Latino advocates have made achievements in areas, there is still a need to invest in schools, increase jobs and wages, increase homeownership, and improve health and neighborhood environments to help strengthen Latino families and provide pathways to economic mobility.
